BA Cityflyer, the wholly owned subsidiary of British
Airways, is to start four new routes from London City
Airport from this spring. Services to Nice will begin
in April while new routes to Amsterdam, Barcelona and
Warsaw will start the following month.
The airline will also increase its frequency on the
London City-Zurich route to five flights a day but will
terminate its service to Milan Malpensa from the east
London airport.
Speaking a week after the opening of the new Eurostar
station at Ebbsfleet International, Richard Gooding,
chief executive of London City Airport, said: The
new services come at an important time for the airport
as we prepare for the next stage of our development
and continue to be the hub of choice for business travellers
based in the City of London and Canary Wharf.
BA has also announced it will start services from Heathrow
to Malaga and from Gatwick to Alicante, Faro, Gibraltar,
Ibiza, Malaga, Palma and Tunis from next spring, which
will replace similar services currently operated by
its franchise GB Airways. Easyjet recently announced
its decision to acquire GB Airways.
To make room for the new services, BA will suspend
its flights from Gatwick to Aberdeen, Nice, Prague,
Reykjavik and Split .
