The global alliance of 15 carriers, including United
Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa and BMI, have
confirmed that SAA has applied to join the Star Alliance
and should be accepted as a member in June. US Airways
is also due to sign up later in the year.
According to Star Alliance' chief executive Jaan Albrecht,
the group is always interested in adding quality airlines,
particularly those with long-standing and successful
relationships with other member carriers. SAA joining
the Star Alliance would significantly enhance the Star
Alliance network across Africa and beyond. The airline
will be the first from Africa to join the group.
