Celebrating 65 years of flights at Birmingham
This
year, British Airways celebrates 65 years serving Birmingham
customers. Since the airport first opened in 1939, British
Airways has been at the forefront of developing routes
and services from England's second city.
British Airways operated the first scheduled flight
from Birmingham Airport to Paris, as well as the first
transatlantic flight from Birmingham to the United States.
Birmingham was also the site of Eurohub (now called
T2), the first European terminal to integrate both domestic
and international passengers, giving passengers the
convenience to connect between flights without changing
terminals.
British Airways currently flies from Birmingham to
16 destinations in the UK and Europe, including Paris
CDG, Brussels and Milan. In fact, British Airways flights
account for around one third of all scheduled take-offs
and landings.
The introduction of e-tickets, Self-Service and Online
Check-in facilities, plus a Terraces Lounge for premium
passengers cements Birmingham's ongoing commitment to
passengers and new technology alike.
