Japan Airlines has introduced premium economy class
on international routes, beginning with Tokyo-Heathrow.
Premium economy is the airlines fourth class
of cabin after first, executive (business) and economy.
Premium economy is located in a separate cabin and
will feature the new JAL Sky Shell seat, configured
in a 2-4-2 layout on the airlines Boeing 777 aircraft.
A total of 44 seats are available on routes operated
by the B777-300ER, which includes London, and 40 on
the B777-200ER.
The Sky Shell, which offers a 120 degree angle of recline,
is 48cm (18.9 inches) wide and has a seat pitch of 97cm
(38 inches), resulting in 20% more legroom than in standard
economy class.
Each seat has its own power outlet for personal computers
and a seat tray that can easily accommodate a
fully opened A4-sized laptop.
Amenity kits provided in premium economy are the same
as those in business class, and passengers are also
provided with noise-cancelling headphones.
In addition to the selection of food and drink normally
available on JALs economy class menu, passengers
in premium economy are also served other refreshments
and snacks including champagne, instant noodles and
ice cream during the flight.
On the ground, premium economy passengers are able
to use dedicated check-in counters at Tokyo Narita,
and JAL Executive Class counters at overseas airports.
They are also able to use JALs Sakura business
class departure lounges and its priority baggage and
flight caddie services. The flight caddie service entitles
passengers to the free of charge delivery of one piece
of baggage from a specified address to the airport in
Japan.
