New Entry Requirements for Libya

26th November 2007

Effective immediately, all passengers travelling to Libya are required to have an Arabic translation of their details. This must be attached to their passport. We have been informed that passengers who do not have an Arabic translation of their passport details will be refused entry into Libya and deported.

The translation must be presented on blank page attached to their passport and must contain the translation of all the details on the passport photo page as follows:

- Name
- Forenames
- Place of Birth
- Date of Birth
- Nationality
- Passport No.
- Issued at
- Date of Issue
- Date of Expiry

The translation information will need to be authenticated by government stamp ( issued by the passport issuing country). For example, if a passenger has a British passport the translation stamp should be authenticated with a stamp issued by a branch of the British Government ( eg the Foreign Office, UK Passport Office etc) or an authenticating stamp issued by a British Embassy.

Attached are a couple of specimens of the blank translation stamp and a copy of a completed translation stamp (kindly supplied by someone in the British Embassy in Tripoli ). Apparently this is the only acceptable format for these Arabic translations:

British Airways will provide passengers with an information letter at the airport but regret that we cannot supply the translation. Passengers are advised to seek assistance from the relevant passport and visa agencies. We regret that passengers who do not have this translation will not be accepted for travel.
