15th June sees the introduction of Continental
Airlines' second daily service from Birmingham
to Newark. With connections on to Continental's extensive
US network this increase in capacity can only be good
news for Midlanders on the move.
The new national airline of the United Arab Emirates
- ETIHAD - begins a new service
from Heathrow to Abu Dhabi at the end of March. Initially
a thrice weekly operation by Airbus A330 - 200 3 series,
it is envisaged the service will become daily in the
summer.

The March of the E-ticket |
With the rapid increase in the number of routes on
which electronic tickets may be issued, British
Airways will introduce from 1st April a fee of
£25 for every paper ticket for which an e-ticket
could be issued. Other airlines are considering or have
already announced similar charges.
Travellers from Stansted
currently taking one of the numerous "red-eye"
early morning no-frills airline departures have until
now had to suffer from a dearth of good accommodation
for the night before departure. This all changes from
the summer when the 500 room Radisson
SAS Hotel opens. Facilities include a fitness
centre, pool, a choice of meeting rooms and the hotel
boasts a covered walkway to the main terminal building.
This spring sees the launch of Virgin
Atlantic's radical new product - the
Upper Class "Suite". This offers the
largest fully flat bed in business class when compared
with other airlines. With a length of 202 cm and a width
of 84 cm the flat bed overshadows all the offerings
