Make it your business to know the carbon cost of every business trip
Sustainable Business Travel Management
Business travel keeps many companies running and, more than ever, you want to know how that affects your corporate sustainability.
Clients ask about it in tenders, investors and lenders ask about it in annual reports and, for larger businesses, UK reporting rules ask about it, too.
Wayte Travel Management can help. We show the CO₂ for every flight and train journey we book, helping you to build lower-carbon choices into your travel policy.
We won’t pretend business travel is carbon-free, but we can help you make better choices and positive steps about it.

Business travel carbon reporting
You can’t reduce what you can’t see. Every air and rail booking we make carries a CO₂ figure in Wayte Travel Analytix.
Because the figures sit in the same reports as your spend, you can break them down in the same way: by department, cost centre, traveller, route or type of travel. You can see which routes produce the most emissions, how the total changes from one quarter to the next and where a different choice would have made the biggest difference.
Trips booked by phone, by email or through Wayte Travel Online all appear in one place, so nothing is left out of the picture.
Carbon reporting is included with your account at no extra cost. Your reports sit behind a secure login, ready for your Finance and Sustainability teams to use in your own reporting.

Reducing the carbon footprint of your business travel
Cutting travel emissions doesn’t have to mean cutting the travel your business depends on. Small, sensible changes, applied consistently, soon add up.
Your business travel policy is the best place to start. We can help you write lower-carbon rules into it, such as taking the train instead of flying on shorter domestic and European routes. Choosing direct flights over connections where practical can have a real impact, as can setting which cabin classes are allowed on which routes.
Those rules apply at the point of booking, whether a trip is booked by phone or through Wayte Travel Online and anything outside them goes to the right approver first.
Your reports then show how you’re doing. You can compare rail with short-haul flights on the routes you use most, see where trips could be combined and, if you choose, set carbon budgets for each department and track progress through the year.
If you’re drafting or updating a travel policy with sustainability in mind, your dedicated Wayte Travel Management consultant can share what we know works for other businesses.

Sustainable business travel FAQs
How do you calculate the carbon emissions of our travel?
Each booking’s CO₂ figure is calculated from the details of the trip, such as the route, the type of transport and the class of travel. The figures then appear in your reports alongside the cost.
Is carbon reporting included in your reports, or is there an extra cost?
Carbon reporting is included with your account at no extra cost.
Can we set carbon budgets for different departments?
Yes. You can set carbon budgets as well as financial ones in your travel policy. Your reports will show how each department is tracking through the year.
