Political unrest in Madagascar
Managing clients through political unrest
The challenge
On 25 September 2025, Madagascar encountered its most significant political crisis in recent years. Triggered by youth-led protests over economic and governance issues, the unrest escalated into a broader challenge to state authority, leading to widespread disturbances, curfews and blocked access to Antananarivo airport. This resulted in numerous flight cancellations.
Our response
Our Operations Team activated travel risk protocols to identify all passengers in Madagascar and those scheduled to travel. We communicated with stakeholders, including the onsite travel manager, prioritising travellers based on their dates.
The Crisis Management Team assessed airlines cancelling flights due to curfews and facilitated rebooking on operational carriers, managing costs and securing new tickets as necessary. We monitored flights and coordinated with our client’s ground travel team to ensure safe travel.
Despite the dynamic situation and six weeks of curfews, our dedicated support significantly reduced the impact on travellers. We assisted approximately 150 individuals arriving at and departing from Antananarivo during this period.
The benefit
